Sanborn Man Faces Felony Drug Charge After Sheldon Arrest

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sanborn man has been arrested on a felony drug charge after an alleged assault in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 21-year-old Dalton DenHartog-Hopcroft of Sanborn is accused of felony drug possession. He was arrested on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023.

The complaint states that DenHartog-Hopcroft had been placed under arrest on misdemeanor assault and interference with official acts charges. The officer states that while he was searching DenHartog-Hopcroft, the officer found a folded-up piece of aluminum foil in DenHartog-Hopcroft’s right pocket. He says the aluminum foil contained a blue pill that was cut into small pieces. The officer also says DenHartog-Hopcroft admitted that the pill was fentanyl.

DenHartog-Hopcroft was charged with third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance. Since he had been convicted twice before on similar charges, this time the offense was a class D felony. If convicted, DenHartog-Hopcroft could face up to five years in prison.

At last report, DenHartog-Hopcroft remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar. No court dates have yet been set in the case.
