Sanborn, Iowa– A Sanborn teen was taken to the hospital after an accident near Sanborn on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 3:15 p.m., 33-year-old Tyler Solsma of Sanborn was driving a 2011 Toyota pickup eastbound on Highway 18, two miles west of Sanborn. They tell us that 17-year-old Olivia Spronk of Sanborn was also eastbound on 18 in a 2011 Chevy.
The report says that Solsma was making a left turn into his driveway. It says Spronk didn’t see that Solsma was turning or his turn signal. They tell us that when she did notice, it was too late. She swerved to pass and struck the Solsma vehicle mid-turn.
The Sanborn Ambulance took Spronk to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
Solsma’s Toyota pickup sustained $8000 in damages, and Spronk’s Chevy sustained $5000 in damages. Both were considered totaled.
Spronk was charged with failure to maintain control.
