Sanborn, Iowa — A Sanborn woman escaped serious injury Tuesday morning when her minivan collided with a semi east of Sanborn.
Authorities say Teresa Van Dyke of Sanborn was westbound on Highway 18, about one-quarter-mile west of the Silver Avenue intersection in a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan, when she reportedly became fatigued and crossed the center line, striking and sideswiping a 2007 Peterbilt driven by Trent Smidt of Buffalo Center.
Officials say Van Dyke’s minivan careened off the semi, coming to rest in the westbound ditch. Smidt’s Peterbilt came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 18.
Van Dyke was reportedly transported to Mercy One Hospital in Primghar by Sanborn Ambulance. Investigating officers say seat belt usage combined with airbag deployment prevented serious injury.
