Sanborn Woman Rescued From Fiery Crash By Fellow Motorists Near Carnes

Carnes, Iowa — A Sanborn woman was rescued by fellow motorists after her car left Highway 60 and started on fire near Carnes early on Friday, July 12, 2024.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that a few minutes after midnight, 25-year-old Madison Borden of Sanborn was driving a 2005 Buick northbound on Highway 60, two miles south of Alton, when she lost control of the vehicle, which entered the median and rolled. The vehicle started on fire, and Borden was extricated from the vehicle by other motorists.

The Buick sustained about $5,000 in damage.

The Orange City Ambulance took her to the Orange City Area Health System.

The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol is suspected to be a factor and the accident remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s office tells us the Orange City Fire Department, Alton Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance Squad and Orange City Police Department assisted with the response to the accident.
