Seven People Taken To Sibley Hospital After Highway 60 Accident Near Ashton

Ashton, Iowa — Seven people were taken to a hospital after an accident near Ashton on Sunday.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, about 2:15 p.m., 41-year-old Birhanu Nedi Bedane of Wilber, Nebraska was driving a 2015 Ford Transit van registered to Rent-a-Van of Lincoln, Nebraska southbound on Highway 60 about a mile north of Ashton.

According to the report, Bedane said he attempted to change lanes and the vehicle started to slide. Bedane then attemped to correct the Ford but over-corrected causing it to slide more and veer off the road into the ditch.

The van rolled four times before coming to a stop in the west ditch.

Sibley and Ashton ambulances took Bedane, four adult passengers, and two juvenile passengers to the Osceola Regional Health Center. Varying injuries were reported.

The sheriff’s office says the Ford received about $24,500 in damage.
