Shed, Side-By-Side, Skid Loader Destroyed In Sutherland Area Fire

Sutherland, Iowa — A cattle shed, a skid loader, and a side-by-side ATV were destroyed in a fire on Thursday, June 27, 2024, near Sutherland.

According to Sutherland Fire Chief Mark Shriver, at about 3:15 a.m., the Sutherland Fire Department was called to the report of a shed on fire at 6671 Highway 10 Boulevard, a mile and a half south and a mile east of Sutherland.

The chief says the fire department saw the shed fully engulfed in flame as they approached the scene. He says they extinguished the fire.

Shriver says no injuries were reported, and luckily the building was not near any other structures.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but there was no electricity to the building so it almost had to have been caused by something having to do with the side-by-side ATV or the skid loader.

Chief Shriver reports that the building and its contents were totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for an hour to an hour and a half.
