Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon City Councilman has resigned, submitting a letter of resignation to the City in the aftermath of his arrest on Domestic Abuse Assault charges.
Sheldon 2nd Ward Councilman Shawn Broesder was arrested by Sheldon Police on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault, 1st Offense, after police were called to his Sheldon residence Monday morning, according to authorities.
In a letter to City Manager Sam Kooiker, Mayor Greg Geels and his fellow Council members, Broesder writes that he made the decision to resign due to circumstances in his life. His resignation will be effective April 7th and will be on the City Council agenda for their March 24th meeting.

Sheldon, Iowa — The report of a disturbance at a Sheldon residence Monday morning has led to the arrest of a Sheldon City Councilman.
According to a report from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon Police were sent to the home of 42-year-old Shawn Broesder for a domestic disturbance report.
As a result of that call, authorities say Broesder was placed under arrest for 1st Offense Domestic Abuse Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor, and transported to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
