Sheldon Home’s Kitchen Damaged In Monday Fire

Sheldon, Iowa — The fire chief says it could have been a lot worse, but a Sheldon home’s kitchen was damaged in a fire on Monday, May 20, 2024.

According to Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt, at about 5:40 p.m., the Sheldon Fire Company received the report of a house fire at 1539 East 9th Street in Sheldon.

The chief says it was a small kitchen fire, which was due to unattended cooking. He says the fire burned the range hood and some cupboards. He says they used only water fire extinguishers to fight the fire.

Hindt says no injuries were reported.

Chief Hindt tells us the damage was mainly contained to the stove and cupboards with soot and smoke damage throughout the home.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
