Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man faces a felony firearms charge following his arrest late Thursday.
According to court records, 38-year-old Edward Bocanegra was arrested by Sheldon Police after police were told he had possession of a firearm. Court records indicate Bocanegra was convicted of simple misdemeanor domestic assault in O’Brien County in March of 2019. A domestic violence conviction bars the person from possessing a firearm.
Bocanegra was allegedly found to be in possession of a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun at the time of his arrest. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender, which is a class D felony.
A Preliminary Hearing on the case is scheduled for December 20th in O’Brien County Magistrate Court, according to online court records.
