Sheldon Police Arrest Two For Multiple Felonies After Saturday Night Incident

Sheldon, Iowa — A Marathon, Iowa woman and an Archer man face multiple felony charges after an incident in Sheldon Saturday night.

According to papers filed with the Clerk of O’Brien County District Court, shortly before 10:00 Saturday night a Sheldon police officer attempted to pull over a 2013 GMC Envoy, which allegedly failed to stop and reportedly led police on a pursuit through southern Sheldon, where speeds reached 65-miles-per-hour at times. The chase lasted only about five minutes, according to Sheldon Police Chief Scott Burtch, and when the vehicle stopped, a passenger, identified as 22-year-old Walker Hollenbeck of Archer, allegedly baled from the vehicle.

According to court records, a search of the SUV turned up 38 grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of marijuana, as well as scales and more than $3,000 in cash.

Authorities say the driver, 22-year-old Kyleigh Sanders, of Marathon, was charged with a total of five felony crimes: A Controlled Substance Violation for the methamphetamine, which is a Class B Felony; along with a Controlled Substance Violation for the marijuana; two counts of Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp; and  Eluding While Participating In a Felony, all Class D Felonies.

Court records indicate that Hollenbeck was charged with a Controlled Substance Violation for the methamphetamine, which is a Class B Felony, as well as: a Controlled Substance Violation for the marijuana, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp; and Possession or Use of a False Drug Tax Stamp, all of which are Class D Felonies. Hollenbeck was also taken into custody on previous warrants from O’Brien and Clay Counties.

Both Sanders and Hollenbeck were booked into the O’Brien County Jail on the charges. If convicted, each of the Class B Felonies carry a maximum penalty of 25-years in prison, while each of the Class D Felonies carry a maximum penalty of 5-years in prison.
