Sheldon Woman Facing Felony Forgery, Theft Charges After Deposits

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon woman has been arrested on theft and forgery charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 52-year-old Paula Gonshorowski of Sheldon is accused of depositing two fraudulent checks into her account.

In his statement, the officer says Gonshorowski knowingly deposited two checks, one via an ATM, for $7,950 and $6,453 to gain the amount on the checks into her own checking account. He says she admitted when she had the check, she did not have access to those funds and did not know where the money was coming from. She also allegedly stated that she possessed a check with her information on it that was not true and accurate.

Gonshorowski was charged with two counts of second-degree theft and two counts of forgery, which are all class D felonies. If convicted, Gonshorowski could face up to five years in prison on each count.

She faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on July 26th.

Gonshorowski was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar, and was released the next day after posting bond.
