Hospers, Iowa — A Sheldon woman was taken to the hospital after a crash near Hospers on Thursday, April 9, 2026
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 5:00 p.m., 27-year-old Miriam Ajanel-Cruz of Sheldon was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Hospers Drive North and was stopped at a stop sign. They tell us 36-year-old Tiffanie Tatsumi, also of Sheldon, was driving a 2014 Ford Taurus southbound on Highway 60.
The deputy says Ajanel-Cruz entered the intersection while attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 60 and was struck by the Tatsumi vehicle.
The Hospers Ambulance took Tatsumi to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.
The deputy tells us the Ajanel-Cruz Chevrolet sustained about $8,000 in damage. The Tatsumi Ford sustained about $10,000 in damage.
Ajanel-Cruz was cited on a charge of Failure to Yield the Right of Way at a Stop Sign.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Sheldon Police Department, Sheldon Ambulance Team, the Hospers Fire Department, and Hospers Ambulance all assisted with the response to the crash.
