Sibley, Ashton Firefighters Put Out Grass Fire Near Sibley

Sibley, Iowa — About fifteen acres of Conservation grassland was burned in a fire on Monday, January 27, 2025, near Sibley.

According to Sibley Fire Chief Ken Huls, at about 12:15 p.m., the Sibley Fire Department was called to the report of a grass fire along Highway 60 near exit 48 just south of Sibley.

The chief says the fire department saw the grass on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water and flappers to fight the fire.

Huls says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Ashton Fire Department and officers from the Osceola County Conservation Board on ATVs.

He says the cause of the fire was probably smoking materials.

Chief Huls reports that the damage was limited to the roughly fifteen acres of grass.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
