Sibley Man Taken To Hospital After His Pickup Strikes Semi

Osceola County, Iowa — A Sibley man was taken to the hospital in the wake of a pickup vs semi-truck crash near the Minnesota border Friday afternoon.

Osceola County authorities report the crash happened about 2:40 Friday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 60 and 100th Street in extreme northern Osceola County.

According to the report, 39-year-old Adam William Rivera, of Ellsworth, was driving a 2011 Freightliner Cascadia, owned by Hokeness Farms of Adrian, Minnesota, eastbound on 100th Street. Deputies say Rivera failed to yield at the intersection of 100th Street and Highway 60, and pulled into the path of a northbound 2005 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 76-year-old Darrel Dean Deweerdt of Sibley, which struck the center of the trailer of Rivera’s semi.

Authorities say Deweerdt was extricated from his pickup by non-mechanical means, then transported to Osceola Regional Health Center by Sibley Ambulance with non-incapacitating injuries.

Deputies estimate damage to Rivera’s semi at approximately $5,000, while Deweerdt’s F150 received approximately $10,000 in damage.

Assisting at the scene was the Sibley Fire Department, Bigelow Fire Department, Nobles County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
