Sioux Center Man Arrested After Crash

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man finds himself in hot water after crashing his car Wednesday evening in Sioux Center.

According to court documents, shortly before 7:30 Wednesday evening, a 2007 Toyota Corolla, driven by 55-year-old Mario Martin Martin, struck a parked vehicle on 7th Street Northeast in Sioux Center. Responding police report that Martin Martin allegedly smelled heavily of alcohol when they encountered him at the scene of the accident. Police allege that Martin Martin’s balance was so poor that they deemed field sobriety tests to be too dangerous for him to perform. Police say that, according to the PBT (Preliminary Breath Test), his blood alcohol content was well above the legal limit.

In addition to being arrested for 1st Offense OWI, a Serious Misdemeanor, Martin Martin was also charged with Bribery, a Class D Felony, for allegedly offering the two arresting officers money in exchange for his freedom. He is also charged with Interference With Official Acts, Giving a False ID, Open Container of Alcohol, No Valid Driver’s License, Driving On The Wrong Side of a Two-Way Highway and Failure to Maintain Control.

Martin Martin was taken to the Sioux County Jail. A Preliminary Hearing in the case is scheduled for February 15th in Sioux County Magistrate Court.
