Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center woman has been arrested on several charges, including two felony counts, after a traffic stop in Sioux Center.
Twenty-eight-year-old Brookelyn Schelling of Sioux Center was arrested Thursday by Sioux Center Police and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of marijuana while children were present in the car, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office.
In his statement, the officer says Schelling failed to obey a traffic control device, and when the officer stopped her, he could smell marijuana. Two children were also in child restraint seats in the vehicle, says the officer. Schelling is said to have admitted to possessing marijuana in the vehicle. A search turned up other marijuana paraphernalia, marijuana vape, and marijuana flower.
Schelling was charged with two counts of child endangerment, a class D felony. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison on each count. She also faces misdemeanor charges of operating under the influence, possession of marijuana, and two counts of possession of cannabidiol.
She faces a preliminary hearing on Monday, December 8th.
Schelling was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, and was released the next day after posting a $5000 bond.
