Sioux Center Woman Taken To Hospital After Crash West Of Boyden

Boyden, Iowa — A Sioux Center woman was taken to a hospital after a crash between Boyden and Hull on Monday, April 21st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 12:45 p.m, 30-year-old Rubelina Lopez of Sioux Center was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Highway 18, two and a half miles east of Hull. They tells us 26-year-old Brian Berger of Chatfield, MN was driving a 2020 Ford F-350 pulling a flatbed trailer westbound on Highway 18 behind Lopez.

The deputy says Lopez signaled she was going to turn right onto Jackson Avenue. Berger then moved into the other lane to pass, and Lopez instead began turning to turn left onto Jackson Avenue and struck the trailer pulled by Berger. Lopez lost control of the Chevrolet, and it entered the north ditch.

The Boyden Ambulance took Lopez to Sioux Center Health.

The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $15,000 in damage. The trailer sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Berger was cited on a charge of improper passing in an intersection. Lopez was cited on a charge of failure to continuously use turn signal and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The sheriff’s office tells us the Boyden Fire Department and Boyden Ambulance Squad assisted them with the response to the accident.
