Sioux County Burning Ban Lifted

Orange City, Iowa — The burning ban that was issued just three days ago by Sioux County Emergency Management has been lifted after significant precipitation in the area.

Sioux County Emergency Management Director Ryan De Kruyf says that while conditions have improved, fire risk is still present, so please continue to use caution.

De Kruyf says if you are planning a controlled burn, you MUST call it in ahead of time. He says this helps prevent unnecessary emergency responses and keeps first responders available for real emergencies. Contact the Sioux County Communications Center at (712) 737-3307 before conducting any field burns, ditch burns, or large controlled burns.

He says there are exceptions to the rule. For instance, you do NOT need to call in if you’re going to light your backyard fire pit or a small bonfire. You don’t need to call for gas or charcoal grilling or for recreational fires in proper fire rings.

But De Kruyf says burn smart. Have water and tools ready. And never leave your fire unattended.
