Hawarden, Iowa — One man was taken to the hospital after two drivers struck cattle that had gotten on the roadway northeast of Hawarden Sunday night.
Sioux County authorities say the mishaps happened shortly before 9:00 Sunday evening on 390th Street, eight miles northeast of Hawarden.
According to authorities, a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by 23-year old Kody Poeckes of Ireton, was westbound on 390th Street when he struck several cows on the roadway.
At about the same time, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by 25-year old Cody Loges of Hawarden, was eastbound on 390th Street when he struck the same herd of cows on the roadway, according to Sheriff’s Office personnel.
Deputies say Poeckes was taken to the Hawarden Hospital by Hawarden Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
Poeckes’ 2015 Chevy pickup sustained about $25-thousand in damage, and Loges’ 2002 Chevy pickup sustained approximately $10-thousand in damage, according to the accident report.
Sioux County deputies were assisted at the scene by the Hawarden Ambulance, Hawarden FIre Department, Hawarden Police Department, and Sioux County Conservation.
