Sioux Falls Man Arrested On Warrant For Rock Rapids Car Theft

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man has been arrested on a warrant for felony theft and criminal mischief charges charges in connection with an incident last December in Rock Rapids.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, now 30-year-old Joseph Quick of Sioux Falls is accused of taking a vehicle and damaging it. He was arrested on the warrant on Wednesday.

In his statement, the deputy says Quick is accused of taking a 2022 Subaru Ascent from a convenience store in Rock Rapids. He says the Subaru was recovered in Sioux Falls with significant damage to the navigation screen and wiring. He says the damage was estimated at over $4,000. The deputy says Quick was identified on video surveillance and through multiple people who observed him attempting to get a ride back to Sioux Falls.

Quick was charged with first-degree theft, a class C felony, and second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony. If convicted on the class C felony, Quick could face up to ten years in prison, with a possible five years in prison on the class D count.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Friday, September 20th.

At last report, Quick remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of a $15,000 cash or surety bond.
