Larchwood, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man has been arrested on felony eluding charges after a pursuit in and near Larchwood back in September.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 31-year-old Bobby Olseth of Sioux Falls is accused of eluding a deputy while under the influence and possessing illegal drugs. He was arrested on Sunday, December 18th.
The complaint states that when the deputy encountered Olseth, his vehicle had expired registration and was traveling over the speed limit. Olseth failed to stop when the deputy activated his emergency lights and a pursuit began on Highway 9. The deputy says the vehicle at times traveled over 110 miles per hour and the pursuit continued into the city of Larchwood. The report says Olseth lost control of the vehicle and it left the roadway, striking an unattended vehicle and two trees before becoming disabled. He says Olseth was found to be under the influence of illegal drugs including cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana.
Olseth faces the felony eluding charge, which is a class D felony, and a laundry list of other charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of synthetic urine for a drug or alcohol test, operating while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, operating a non-registered vehicle, no insurance, failure to maintain control, driving on the wrong side of a highway, unsafe passing, and three counts of speeding.
If convicted of a class D felony, Olseth could face up to five years in prison.
He faces an initial appearance in court on January 17th, 2023.
