Alvord, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man was transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital after his SUV collided with a train near Alvord Friday noon.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 64-year-old William Payton, of Sioux Falls, was westbound on 210th Street, just north of Alvord, in a 2019 Ford Explorer, when deputies say he failed to properly stop at the railroad crossing and collided with the lead engine of a BNSF Railway train.
