Larchwood, Iowa — Two people from Sioux Falls have been arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop near the state line, close to the Grand Falls Casino in rural Larchwood.
According to criminal complaints filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 47-year-old Javier Arteaga and 32-year-old Lori Perez, both of Sioux Falls are accused of drug possession in a sufficient amount to require a drug tax stamp. They were arrested on Sunday.
In his statements, the deputy says Arteaga was the driver of a vehicle that was stopped, and Perez was the passenger. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed open containers of alcohol, a bag with a small amount of marijuana, three bags of methamphetamine, and various drug paraphernalia.
Both were charged with failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony. If convicted, they could each face up to five years in prison. Both also face misdemeanor charges of possession of methamphetamine, and Arteaga faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
Arteaga was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids and was released the same day after posting a $5000 bond.
At last report, Perez remained in the jail in lieu of a $5000 bond.
