Doon, Iowa — A skid loader was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, near Doon.
According to Doon Fire Chief Blake Van Bemmel, at about 5:40 p.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a skid loader on fire in a building at 2652 250th Street, a mile and a half west of the north side of Doon.
The chief says the fire department saw a skidloader on fire inside an attached garage as they approached the scene. He says they extinguished the fire and saved the structure.
Van Bemmel says no injuries were reported.
He tells us they originally asked for the Alvord firefighters to be paged, but they radioed that they no longer needed them.
He says the cause of the fire is believed to be something smoldering in the engine bay but the cause is officially undetermined.
Chief Van Bemmel reports that the garage did receive minor damage, but the skid loader was totaled in the blaze.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half an hour.
