Sibley, Iowa– An SUV was totaled in a fire on Saturday, October 20, 2018, near Sibley.
According to Sibley Fire Chief Ken Huls, about 6:15 p.m., the Sibley Fire Department was called to the report of a car fire. He says it was near L40 and 190th Street, about a mile southeast of Sibley.
The chief says the fire department saw fire in the front of the vehicle as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire, which, according to Huls was just breaking into the passenger compartment. He says while they were able to save most of the passenger compartment and its contents, the Ford Explorer was totaled.
Huls says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be that the left front brake caliper had seized up and locked the wheel of the southbound vehicle.
According to Huls, they used about 500 gallons of water plus foam to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about a half an hour.
