Granville, Iowa — About thirty cornstalk bales were destroyed in a fire on Friday, August 13, 2021, near Granville.
According to Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen, about 1:10 p.m., the Granville Fire Department was called to the report of a hay bale fire at 4931 McKinley Avenue, one mile east and about three and a half miles south of Granville.
The chief says the fire department pulled the bales apart and extinguished the fire with water.
Kellen says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Paullina and Hospers fire departments.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be spontaneous combustion, and that about 30 bales were destroyed.
Kellen tells us the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
