Alton, Iowa — Three people were taken to a hospital by ambulance after a three-vehicle crash near Alton on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that a few minutes before 3:00 p.m., 42-year-old Nathan Schwebach of Boyden was driving a 2007 GMC truck northbound on Kingbird Avenue. They tell us 25-year-old Bradon Meyer of George was driving a 2015 Chevrolet pickup, pulling a 2014 P&J flatbed trailer southwestbound on Highway 60. They say 66-year-old Arlin De Weerd of Ireton was driving a 2024 Chevrolet pickup southbound on Kingbird Avenue and was stopped at the intersection of Kingbird and Highway 60.
Schwebach entered the intersection and struck the Meyer vehicle. We’re told Meyer’s trailer was pushed into De Weerd’s pickup, and all three vehicles came to rest in the northwest ditch.
De Weerd and two passengers were transported by ambulance services of Alton and Orange City to Orange City Area Health. Schwebach was evaluated by EMS personnel and declined further medical attention.
The GMC sustained about $60,000 in damage. The Meyer pickup and P&J Trailer sustained about $12,500 in damage, and the De Weerd pickup sustained approximately $50,000 in damage.
Schwebach was cited on a charge of failing to yield from a stop sign.
The sheriff’s office says the Alton Fire Department, Alton Ambulance Squad, Orange City Police Department, Orange City Ambulance Squad, and the Iowa Department of Transportation assisted with the response to the accident.
