Hospers, Iowa — Three people were taken to area hospitals following a two-vehicle crash at the north edge of Hospers Tuesday afternoon.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened around 3:20 Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 60 and Hospers Drive. Troopers say a 2013 Jeep, driven by 65-year-old Joleen Marie Tiedemann of Sheldon was eastbound on Hospers Drive and stopped at the stop sign at the Highway 60 intersection. Tiedemann is said to have yielded to a turning semi, then entered the intersection into the path of a southbound 2014 Dodge Dart, driven by 16-year-old Janie Schoonhoven of Hospers. After the collision, both vehicles veered into the median, where they came to rest.
Troopers say Schoonhoven and a passenger in her car, 14-year-old Gracie Shoonhoven, were transported to the Orange City Hospital. Jamie by the Orange City Ambulance, and Gracie by SCAT. Tiedemann was also injured and was taken to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Hospers Ambulance.
Damage to Tiedemann’s Jeep was estimated at about $5,000, while Schoonhoven’s Dodge sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Tiedemann was cited for Failure To Yield Right Of Way From A Stop Sign.
