Rock Valley, Iowa — A Sioux Center teen and Rock Valley woman, and her passenger were taken to the hospital after an accident near Rock Valley on Monday, May 13th.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just after 6:15 pm on Monday, 17-year-old Caitlin Castaneda of Sioux Center was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Garfield Avenue, two miles east of Rock Valley. Fifty-one-year-old Paula Maassen of Rock Valley was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country minivan westbound on Highway 18.
According to the report, Castaneda failed to obey the stop sign at Highway 18, entered the intersection and struck Maassen.
Castaneda, Maassen and a passenger in Maassen’s vehicle were transported by Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley for treatment of their injuries.
The Chevrolet received $8,000 in damage. The Chrysler received $10,000 in damage
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Ambulance.
Castaneda was cited with the charge of failing to obey a stop sign and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
