UPDATE: Thursday Accident Near Inwood Claims One Life, Injures Four More

Inwood, Iowa – The Iowa State Patrol has released more information about the two-vehicle crash near Inwood Thursday, that claimed the life of a Sioux Center man.

Troopers identify the victim as 90-year-old Stanley Kroese, of Sioux Center.

According to the Trooper’s Accident Report, the mishap occurred shortly after 10:30 Thursday morning when a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Kroese, was northbound on Highway 182, slowed to turn into a driveway, and was struck in the rear by a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 39-year-old Jennifer Simpson, of Rock Valley.

Troopers say Kroese was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 84-year-old Joan Kroese was transported to Avera in Sioux Falls by the Canton Ambulance.

Simpson was reportedly taken to Sanford Sioux Falls, while a 7-year-old child in the Simpson vehicle was airlifted to a Sioux Falls, hospital, and a 9-year-old child was taken to Sanford Sioux Falls by the Canton Ambulance.

The accident report says the crash remains under investigation.

Inwood, Iowa — One man died in a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday, north of Inwood. Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies, the Iowa State Patrol, Inwood Fire and Rescue, the Larchwood Fire department, and Sanford Canton-Inwood Ambulance responded to 911 calls at 10:35 am to the 2200 block of Highway 182.


The Sheriff’s office says that a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe was northbound on the highway behind a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer. The Tahoe impacted the rear of the Blazer, and both vehicles came to rest in the east ditch.


The Tahoe was occupied by an adult female driver and two minors. One of the minors was transported by Avera Careflight. The driver and the other minor were transported by ambulance to Sanford in Sioux Falls.


The Blazer was occupied by an adult male driver and a female passenger. The adult male sustained fatal injuries. The female passenger was transported by ambulance to Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

The names of those involved have not been released at this time to allow time for notification of next of kin.


The crash is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol Technical Collision Investigation Unit.
