Sheldon, Iowa — A routine traffic stop for a pair of vehicle equipment violations led to the arrest of a Sheldon man on a felony and two misdemeanor charges early Saturday evening (December 11th).
According to court records obtained by KIWA, about 6:10 Saturday evening, an O’Brien County Deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Cory Sheeler of Sheldon. The court documents say that, during the course of the traffic stop, the deputy began investigating Sheeler for operating while intoxicated (OWI). During the investigation, the deputy alleges that Sheeler dropped a glass marijuana pipe onto the ground, which was located and retrieved by another officer on the scene, according to court records.
Sheeler was eventually placed under arrest for OWI, according to authorities, and a search of his person and vehicle allegedly turned up a “green plant-like material consistent with marijuana.”
Court documents indicate that Sheeler has been twice convicted of possession of marijuana, which makes this latest charge a class D felony.
In addition, Sheeler was charged with 2nd offense OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor, along with possession or carrying of dangerous weapons while under the influence, a serious misdemeanor.
According to online court records, Sheeler is scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing on the charges in O’Brien County Magistrate Court on December 22nd.
