Truck Driver Injured In Alton Area Accident

Alton, Iowa — A truck driver was taken to a hospital after a crash near Alton on Friday morning, May 1.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:45 a.m., 39-year-old Jesse Thompson of Altoona, Iowa was driving a 2015 Mack semi-tractor pulling a freight trailer northbound on Kiwi Avenue, five miles southeast of Alton, when he lost control of the vehicle. It entered the east ditch, and struck two Northwest REC electrical utility poles — causing the overhead power lines to dislodge. They tell us the semi-tractor came to rest on the roadway and the trailer in the east ditch.

The Alton Ambulance took Thompson to Orange City Area Health. His injuries were described as “minor.”

The sheriff’s office tells us the Mack and trailer sustained about $50,000 in damage. The Northwest REC property sustained about $4,000 in damage.

Thompson was cited on a charge of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The sheriff’s office reports that the Alton Ambulance Squad and Alton Fire Department assisted them with the response to the accident.
