Turn Around, Don’t Drown

Hudson, South Dakota — Another reminder to “turn around, don’t drown” when you come to water over the road.

According to the Lincoln County, South Dakota Sheriff’s Office, in the 6:00 hour Friday morning, a man driving a blazer on the Big Sioux River Bridge near Hudson, South Dakota had to be rescued from his vehicle, when he tried to make it across the flooded bridge. The Hudson Fire Department and Rescue Squad rescued the man from his vehicle.

The road just to the east of Hudson becomes 360th Street or B30 on the Iowa side of the river.

The sheriff’s office says the bridge is under water. Barricades have been set up on both the Iowa and South Dakota sides.

Experts say over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water. They say it is never safe to drive into flood waters.
