Larchwood, Iowa — A man from the twin cities area is behind bars in Rock Rapids, accused of the theft of multiple items after a stolen van was found in the parking lot of Grand Falls Casino near Larchwood.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen vehicle at Grand Falls Casino on Monday, October 3rd. The sheriff’s office located the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica and saw a man (later identified as 36-year-old Alex William Rosa) exiting the driver’s seat. The complaint states that Rosa was the sole occupant. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Lyon County Jail.
The complaint states that Rosa told authorities he had a backpack and audio equipment in the vehicle. Law enforcement spoke with owner of the vehicle and she denied ownership of jewelry, audio equipment, a Minnesota driver’s license, and credit/debit cards that were found in the vehicle.
The arresting deputy says he did speak with the law enforcement agency that entered the vehicle stolen and they reported having multiple home/vehicle thefts from that evening. The deputy states that at least three of the credit/debit cards were from a burglary that is being investigated in that jurisdiction.
He says Rosa was also found to be a parole absconder.
Rosa was charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony, and was booked into the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, where he did provide text messages with an additional suspect and stated that he was the one that had taken the van.
Rosa is being held on a $5000 bond. He faces a preliminary hearing on October 14th.
