Rock Valley, Iowa — Two individuals are facing multiple criminal charges after an incident involving a gun early Sunday in Rock Valley.
According to Rock Valley Police Chief Monte Warburton, early Sunday Rock Valley Police were dispatched to a Rock Valley residence for a disturbance involving a gun. Warburton says officers arrived on scene and stopped a 2005 Cadillac fleeing the area, driven by 28-year-old Kimberly Walker Hayes. The Chief reports that Hayes was subsequently placed under arrest for Driving with a Suspended License-simple misdemeanor, No Driver’s License-simple misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-simple misdemeanor, Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd Offense-an aggravated misdemeanor, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm-a Class D felony.
Chief Warburton says that during the investigation officers learned that a second suspect vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, had also been involved and the driver of that vehicle had allegedly pointed a rifle at the victims during an argument. The driver had abandoned the vehicle and fled the area on foot as officers were stopping the first vehicle. Inside the abandoned Suburban, officers reportedly located a loaded .223 rifle that was allegedly used during the argument. The driver was later identified by police as 27-year-old Carter Francis Brinkerhoff of Sioux City.
Officers located Brinkerhoff several hours after the initial traffic stop in the Hegg Administrative Building parking lot and took him into custody without incident, according to the Chief. Brinkerhoff was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm-a Class D felony, Going Armed with Intent-a Class D felony, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon-a class C felony.
Rock Valley K-9 “Gus” was deployed and alerted to the presence of odor of controlled substances in both suspects’ vehicles. The vehicles were then towed to the Rock Valley Police Department where search warrants were secured for the vehicles. A search of the vehicles reportedly revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The Rock Valley Police Department was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
