Two Fire Departments Fight Bale Fire Near Inwood On Monday Night

Inwood, Iowa — Two fire departments were kept busy for a number of hours extinguishing a fire on Monday, March 23, 2026, near Inwood.

According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, at about 8:40 p.m., the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of hay bales on fire at 2484 Dogwood Avenue, four miles east and almost a mile south of Inwood.

When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw several bales on fire. He says the fire started as a garbage pile fire on Saturday and spread through the grove, eventually igniting the bale pile. He says the first thing they did is move the part of the pile that wasn’t on fire away from the burning bales. Then they hauled the burning bales out to a field and spread them out.

Van Beek says no injuries were reported.

The Alvord Fire Department provided mutual aid.

Chief Van Beek reports that about 200 small square bales and a few large ones were lost in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene a little over four hours.
