Sioux Center, Iowa — A few acres of crop stubble were burned in a fire on Friday, October 3, 2025, near Sioux Center.
According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, at about 1:40 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a field fire about a half mile west of 380th Street and Fir Avenue, which would be about four and a half miles west and a mile north of the Casey’s corner in Sioux Center.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw corn and soybean stubble on fire. He says they sprayed water while a farmer with a tractor and disk disked fire breaks.
Van Holland says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Rock Valley Fire Department.
He says an electric line blew down in the wind and sparked the fire.
Chief Van Holland reports that the damage was limited to a few acres of stubble, and, while there was standing crop about 50 feet from the fire, none of it burned.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
