Sioux Center, Iowa — Two people from Sioux Center were taken to a hospital after a crash on Tuesday, April 1 near Sioux Center.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us that about 12:10 p.m., 57-year-old Lennet Harmelink of Sioux Center, was driving a 2015 Ram Promaster City northbound on Hickory Avenue, two miles northeast of Sioux Center. They tell us 34-year-old Joshua Van Wyk of Hospers was driving a 2013 F350 eastbound on 370th Street, and that 33-year-old Marcus Den Herder of Sioux Center was driving a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 westbound on 370th Street.
We’re told Harmelink stopped for the stop sign at 370th Street, entered the intersection, and struck Van Wyk. That impact pushed the Van Wyk pickup into the westbound lane, where he struck the Den Herder GMC.
Harmelink and Den Herder were transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of injuries.
The Harmelink Ram sustained approximately $25,000 in damage. Damage to the Van Wyk Ford was estimated at $20,000. And damage to the Den Herder GMC was estimated at $15,000.
Harmelink was cited on a charge of failure to obey stop sign.
The sheriff’s office tells us the Sioux Center Ambulance Squad, the Sioux Center Fire Department, and Sioux Center Police Department assisted with the response to the accident.
