Two Injured In Crash Near Alvord

Alvord, Iowa – Two people were injured in a single-vehicle mishap late Saturday night near Alvord.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 10:36 PM Saturday night, in the 1900 blk of Dove Avenue.

Deputies say Diego Garcia-Perez, of Rock Valley, was driving a 2018 GMC Sierra southbound on Dove Avenue, when the vehicle entered the south ditch and struck a culvert. Garcia-Perez then reportedly managed to reverse the vehicle away from the culvert before it became inoperable on the front lawn of 1945 Dove Avenue.  

Of the 4 total occupants, the 2 rear seat passengers were transported to Avera Hospital in Rock Rapids by Lyon County Ambulance, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Garcia-Perez and the front seat passenger were medically cleared on scene.

The GMC Sierra was deemed a total loss valued at $30,000, and towed off scene, according to authorities.

Deputies say Garcia-Perez was arrested for operating while intoxicated 1st offense, and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and was transported to the Lyon County Jail and booked on those charges.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Alvord Fire and Rescue, Lyon County Ambulance, and Trackside Towing.
