Ashton, Iowa — Two people were taken to the hospital in the aftermath of a crash near Ashton Monday afternoon.
According to information released by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred Monday afternoon, June 20th, at about 2:20 pm at the intersection of Highway 60 and 260th Street, south of Ashton.
Deputies say 16-year-old Dalton Lloyd Wingate, of Ocheyedan, was westbound on 260th Street in a 2018 Chevrolet pickup. According to authorities, Wingate crossed the northbound lanes of Highway 60, then slowed down at the stop sign in the median, but allegedly failed to yield to a southbound 2015 Dodge Dart, driven by 24-year-old Yolanda Maria Lopez Chavez, of Worthington, and the two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes.
According to authorities, Lopez Chavez and a female passenger were transported by the Sibley Ambulance to the Osceola Community Hospital. Wingate reportedly escaped injury.
Deputies say Wingate was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Through Highway, while Lopez Chavez was cited for No Valid Driver’s License.
The Ashton Ambulance and Ashton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
