Orange City, Iowa — Two people were taken to a hospital after a three-vehicle crash west of Orange City on Thursday morning.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, at about 8:30 a.m., 59-year-old Glen Bonnema of Orange City was driving a 2024 Ford F-150 XLT westbound on Highway 10, about a mile west of Orange City. They tell us 55-year-old Patricia De Kock of Orange City, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on Highway 10 behind Bonnema, and that 50-year-old Justin Freese of Carroll, Iowa, was driving a 2022 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling a tanker trailer westbound on Highway 10.
We’re told Bonnema and De Kock slowed for a vehicle ahead of them that was turning south onto Indian Avenue. They say Freese struck the rear of De Kock’s Chevrolet, and De Kock was pushed forward, striking the Bonnema vehicle.
De Kock and Freese were transported by ambulance services of Alton and Orange City to Orange City Area Health. Bonnema was evaluated by EMS personnel and declined further medical attention.
The De Kock Chevrolet sustained about $23,000 in damage; the Bonnema Ford pickup sustained about $1,000 in damage, and the Freese Peterbilt sustained about $30,000 in damage.
Freese was cited on a charge of following too closely.
The sheriff’s office tells us the Orange City Police Department, Orange City Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance Squad, Alton Fire Department, Alton Ambulance Squad, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted with the response to the crash.
