Spencer, Iowa — The Spencer Fire Department was called to the Clay County Fairgrounds Sunday for a reported fire in a building on the fairgrounds.
Clay County Fair Marketing and Partnership Director Andrea Wiesenmeyer tells KIWA the fire began in a vehicle parked inside the Clay County Fair Livestock Pavilion. Wiesenmeyer says that thanks to the building’s fire suppression system and the quick response from Spencer firefighters, damage was limited to the vehicle that had caught fire.
Wiesenmeyer says the Livestock Pavilion rents out space in the wintertime for residents to store their campers, large boats, and the like. She says fair officials were busy Monday contacting everyone who had property stored in the building at the time of the fire.
