Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon firefighters were called to the report of a vehicle fire which was reported around 9:30 Sunday evening.
According to Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt, the location of the fire had been called in as the railroad tracks in front of Glen’s Sport Center. When firefighters arrived, however, they found the location to be approximately one-quarter mile west of the railroad tracks on 16th Street.
Hindt says when firefighters arrived they discovered a 2004 Chevy pickup with its engine compartment and cab on fire. The truck’s driver and three passengers had been in the vehicle, but left when they started to see the flames. The driver reportedly stated that they had seen flames come out from under the dash and by the time they pulled over they had flames coming out the vent in the top of the dash.
Hindt says firefighters quickly extinguished the fire with about 500 gallons of water and foam.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is undetermined.
The Sheldon Fire Company was assisted by the Sheldon Police Department and was back in service at 11:00 P.M. Sunday evening.
