Sheldon, Iowa — We’ve heard of incidents in which firefighters were summoned to retrieve a cat who had climbed a tree, but Thursday afternoon, the call was for a dog on the roof of a house.
About 2:45 Thursday afternoon, Sheldon firefighters were called to a residence on 7th Street to rescue a dog from the roof of a house.
Witnesses say it appears the German shepherd had gotten onto the roof through a window in the residence. After the fire department’s response and efforts to remove the animal from the roof, witnesses say the dog appeared to re-enter the house through the window he used to exit onto the roof.
In the photo above, the dog’s head can be seen over the left shoulder of the firefighter on the roof.
