Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon woman was transported to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in the aftermath of a 2-vehicle crash in western Sheldon Monday afternoon.
Sheldon police say the accident happened about 5:45 Monday afternoon when a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 43-year old Becky Ackerman of Sheldon was westbound on West Park Street, and stopped for oncoming traffic before making a left turn onto Park Row Avenue. 19-year old Louis Vander Velde of Sioux Center was also westbound, according to the report, in a 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck. Officers say Vander Velde became distracted and failed to stop, causing his pickup to rear-end Ackerman’s car. The report noted that Ackerman’s left turn signal was still activated when police arrived on the scene.
Ackerman was transported by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center with what authorities describe as minor injuries. Vander Velde was uninjured.
Damage to Vander Velde’s pickup was estimated at $25-hundred, with damage estimates of $4-thousand to Ackerman’s Chevy.
Police say Vander Velde was charged with Failure To Maintain Control.
Sheldon Police were assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, Sheldon EMA, and Sheldon Fire Company.
