Lyon County, Iowa — A Brandon, South Dakota woman was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital following a single-vehicle crash in far western Lyon County early Tuesday.
According to Lyon County authorities, shortly before 1:30 Tuesday morning, they received a report of a possible car in the ditch near the intersection of Highway 9 and Beech Avenue. Authorities say a deputy located the vehicle, and determined that the 2010 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 23-year old Betsy Thomas of Brandon, had been eastbound on Highway 9, when she allegedly lost control of the car while traversing the curve, and entered the north ditch, striking a creek embankment.
Thomas was transported to Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls for treatment of possible injuries, according to the report.
Lyon County authorities say they suspect alcohol was a factor in the accident.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Larchwood EMS and Trackside Towing in Alvord.
Deputies say the accident is still under investigation.
