Canadian Woman Injured In Thursday Crash Near Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Canadian woman was taken to the hospital after the pickup she was driving was rear-ended near Rock Valley late Thursday afternoon.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap occurred shortly after 4:30 Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Dogwood Avenue and 360th Street, eight miles southwest of Rock Valley.

Deputies say 24-year-old Joslyn Fousert or Yellowhead, Alberta, Canada was eastbound on 360th Street in a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup, when she slowed to turn onto Dogwood Avenue and was struck from the rear by a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by 43-year-old Travis Bloemendaal of Rock Valley.

Authorities say Fousert was transported by the Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Health Center for treatment of her injuries.  Bloemendaal reported minor injuries, but declined further medical attention.

Bloemendaal’s Chevrolet sustained approximately $20,000 in damage, while Fousert’s GMC sustained approximately $15,000 in damage.

Bloemendaal was  cited for following too close.

Sioux County Deputies were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Rock Valley Ambulance and Rock Valley Fire Department.
