Car Destroyed In Rock Valley Area Fire

Rock Valley, Iowa– A car was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, near Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Assistant Fire Chief Michael Van Driel, about 5:50 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a vehicle on fire at 310th Street and Dogwood Avenue, which is about two miles west, three-quarters-of-a-mile south, and another mile west of the Highway 18 and Main Street stoplight in Rock Valley.

The chief says the fire department saw the engine compartment fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Assistant Chief Van Driel says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but it appeared to have been limited to the engine compartment.

Assistant Chief Van Driel reports that the older Dodge Neon was totaled in the blaze.

He says they used roughly 600 gallons of water to fight the fire, and the eight firefighters who responded were on scene for only about 10 minutes.
