Garage Destroyed, House Damaged In Rural Sheldon Blaze

Sheldon, Iowa — A garage and its contents were destroyed and a home damaged in a fire late Tuesday afternoon northeast of Sheldon.

According to Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt, when firefighters arrived at 2980 Oak Hill Avenue, they found a garage fully engulfed in flames, with its roof collapsing. Hindt says one fire crew attacked the burning garage, while a second crew cooled a nearby propane tank.

The garage, along with all its contents, were considered a total loss, according to Hindt. There was also damage to the siding on the nearby house, along with some broken windows.

Hindt says the cause of the blaze is undetermined, due to the severe damage to the structure.

Sheldon firefighters were assisted by the Ashton Fire Department and their tanker truck, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

Hindt says firefighters were on scene for about two hours.
