Inwood Business Sustains Heavy Damage In Early Morning Fire

Inwood, Iowa — A business was damaged in a fire on Sunday, March 6, 2022 in Inwood.

According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, about 12:15 a.m., the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of a structure fire near 201 West Lincoln Street at A & J Electric, along Highway 18 on the west side of Inwood.

The chief says the fire department saw heavy smoke and flames from one window as they approached the scene. He says they used an external attack, then internal to fight the fire.

Van Beek says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Larchwood, Alvord, and Doon, Iowa fire departments, and the Canton, South Dakota Fire Department.

He says the cause of the fire is under investigation by fire inspectors from Sioux Falls.

Chief Van Beek reports that about half of the building was lost, with smoke damage throughout.

He says most of the firefighters who responded were on the scene for five and a half hours, with the last Inwood unit leaving the scene about 12 hours after the initial call.
